Same, I just feel like this is not the type of popularity that I want.
When someone you know compliments your art, they are in part complimenting you because of the person they know, and not by the quality alone, So I rather show myself in a different self online (dare I say my real self) and get compliments or criticism by my art alone

But that's a good thing since my art and me as a person are intertwined. Quality still plays a role, you really feel it when someone compliments you without meaning it. Also when someone is genuinely impressed, you will notice too, there's a lot stronger positive vibe to it.

But to each their own, when I first got a genuine compliment it really motivated me to keep pursuing art.
