Also I draw because I like drawing and have an urge to draw, but also because my parents never praised me for anything as a kid and I never felt good enough no matter what.
Even if I showed them something I was proud of they always told me "Is that really the best you can do?", "Why are you showing me this?" or just to go away and that I was annoying them.
So now I draw poster/shirt/keychain art and get a lot of satisfaction when people buy my art and proudly wear it or are excited about it, I never had anyone praise me for anything in my life let alone pay money and proudly display it.

I used to fall for that shit too when I was starting to study seriously back in the day. The adult answer is that I could make up some post-hoc rationale but 2bqh it isn't a rational choice. Even calling it a choice is dishonest. Creating stuff is more like a drive, or less romantically a compulsion.

My life would be a lot easier if I didn't have to work around the constant desire to make shit. Idk in another culture you could easily frame art as mental illness. You're working your ass off at perfecting a craft that's arguably useless, rarely makes money, and often comes at a detriment to your personal/professional life.

So I guess the answer is that it's both something I need to do, and something I'm lucky enough to enjoy doing.

I like to make people feel things, to encourage people and show them there's something valuable in what they feel. I like to tell younger people who are starting that they can be better than me if they study right, to not listen to people who try to put them down. Art is a huge part of my family, and my family was never rich, but we always had the old books, records and movies to make everything easier. I've drawn ever since I was little with no goal rather than to simply sharpen my skills in anatomy and draw in a variety of angles, until recently. After reading comic books and manga, I noticed that people can barely draw other races of people.

Now I want to make guides focusing on drawing people of different races. Most art books usually feature drawings and studies of caucasians, so people get hooked on those proportions easier. This leads to people drawing white faces and just slapping a new skin tone on it and calling in X race rather than understanding the facial characteristics that different types of humans possess. Such as facial prognathism, different nose types, and placements of nose bridges.

I'm not really sure. I don't really enjoy drawing anymore and the reason I initially started (drawing anime girls) doesn't interest me anymore. If anything it's probably out of stubbornness to not be defeated by the learning curve, and knowing that I'd seriously regret it in a few years if I did quit.

Well, it fluctuated a lot the past years.
I started drawing because I was frustrated and wanted a hobby that was interesting and wasn't just about killing timel, I started drawing women because I was lonely and thought drawing porn was a good idea.
Slowly that changed and I got interested in drawing other things and really wanted to get into illustrating, I started to enjoy drawing old vehicles.
Now I just want to get good at plein air painting and sell some stuff for chump change.

Drawing and painting feels good and I want to take it to the next level.
Hopefully, I can make people notice me.

If I was to narrow it down to a reason, I’d say that it’s because I’m a frustratingly maladaptive daydreamer who is constantly thinking about different worlds and realities from this one, I guess it’s a form of escapism. I keep fantasising about being in a mythical fantasy setting, or in space, anywhere from reality, and I always think about writing characters that have a piece of myself in them. I guess drawing is the one barrier that is preventing me from drawing my daydreaming fantasies to life.

I’m kind of afraid of what will happen next after I get good enough and draw my comic/manga. Will I just kill myself after that after producing my little self-insert fantasy? Or will I have newer, fresher themes to explore as I go on through my artistic journey? Who knows what the future will bring.
