So, what exactly do you guys mean when you tell people to draw boxes? What does it helps and how do i do it?

Assuming this isn't a bait post... It's a meme response because of the drawing course DrawaBox which got popular a handful of years ago. It's often touted as a great course by ngmis and normies that don't know what they're doing, and end up grinding drawing a box repetitively until they decide to quit drawing altogether. For some reason people don't understand that drawing a box over and over only makes you good at drawing boxes. Not stuff you actually want to draw. Anyone that takes DrawaBox seriously is ngmi material.

TLDR: It's a meme response that means nothing.

drawing boxes isnt the only thing you should be doing but if done right and consistently you can get a pretty good understanding of perspective quickly

It means learn perspective and form, learn to think in volume instead of lines

Alright, thanks for the heads up. So what could you tell to a /beg/ apart from reading the sticky and the pinned books? What excercises should i be doing or which ones would be good to start?

I know i am kinda lazy, but i just want to force me to draw as soon as possible before i start procastinating again.

TLDR: I am weak and don't know how to study.

Thanks for the help anon.

This video alone will take you very very far. You don't have to draw the subject matter he suggests, it can be anything. Draw things you love: sushi, salmon, koi fish, dragons, owls, shrimp ramen, pizza, machinery, cyborg anime girls, etc.

On the side, take the book "Vilppu Drawing Manual" (pdf can be found in the artbook thread here), and work through it slowly. By working through it, I mean copying the drawings. You don't really learn anything from art books without both reading it and copying the drawings in it. That will give you all the theory you need to keep learning and studying forever.

It's the ultimate pleb filter

If you're western you have inherited linear perspective. Linear perspective gives the illusion of space, which I think is an incredible skill. Since you are operating in space, you need a way to move around and make comparative measurements. Everyone from mathematicians to CG artists to pilots to acrobats understand that you need a system to navigate space. The typical system is a 3 dimensional grid, with the axis X Y and Z.
Boxes are literally that 3D grid and axis. They are the map that guides you around the virtual 3D space you are drawing in. Trying to place the femur in curvilinear perspective? Struggling with the foreshortening? Where is it in relation to the XYZ? Place a box and you will have a point of reference for your femur.

Brainlets simply fail to grasp that a box is the most primordial and easy way of navigating space. You aren't supposed to be a slave to boxes and only draw Minecraft, but if you can't draw a simple box, it's bad news for you anon... Unless you're some kind of soi indie dev or medieval scribe working in isometric, or you swallowed the feelgood koolaid of contemporary "drawing"

Once again, for those with short attention spans:

A box is the XYZ coordinates of linear perspective and the easiest form to envelope and build more complex things.

Alright, thanks again. When you say copying the drawings you mean doing the excercises stated in the book right? Does copying stuff from photos helps on anything or i am just losing my time if i do that? I've heard mixed things about this.

copying from photos is a really good way to learn. Just make sure you're thinking about it in the right way when you do it, which is why I recommended working through the Vilppu Drawing Manual. That book will teach you to think in 3d

Well done anon, you understand. Now, try extending the vanishing points to see the relationships between the boxes and the horizon, and try to guess the focal depth used based on their convergence. Control these and you will be on the path to mastery
