Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0
https://youtu.be/t_IODIIYAe0

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

Is there a consensus on the appropriateness of being very obviously inspired by a mangaka's specific artstyle? For example, this jap on pixiv seems pretty successful and uses namori's artstyle

Because anime faces have so little detail that even one slight line out of place or crooked placement can completely change the balance of it. You can tell which artists drew a thing based on those slight shifts to the usual formula, which still requires you to know the basics enough to bend those rules in a way which doesn't result in you looking like an amateur.

Genuine advice for you guys is to draw from life. You don't even have to draw in a realistic style, just reference the anatomy rather than anime pics. You have to know the rules to break the rules. You get a lot of fucked up ideas about how things should be drawn if you learn solely by copying anime. I personally use imagefap and sankakucomplex to look for real life images of anime like poses.

You will probably be able to learn by doing that, but I don't see a reason why you would. Learning exactly how anime is a simplification of anatomy will help you learn to create it from your imagination (and be less obvious that it's being drawn by a foreigner). You might also find that learning the theory behind fundies like drapery, textures, and perspective will make drawing cartoons easier when you return to it too. Check out the video courses thread.

>level 2 basics
>what are basics?
"everything", all the way from lines to light.
clear as mud, and all the categories are like this.
>why aren't lines under techniques?
>how did perspective get separated from form?
>why are quality and consistency two new categories when it's just reaching competency in these other skills?
>how are proportions, body parts, and anatomy separate categories instead of a smooth progression from simplified to full blown artistic anatomy?
>how are there even 16 distinct levels of proportions? you could have one level per major body part and you wouldn't hit that many.

and finally
>what is "level 2"
nobody fucking knows but the person who wrote it. if that. there's an entire chart based on these levels and they mean nothing.

>mastery levels
>1st mastery
>level 3 posing, level 4 anatomy, level 8 proportions and bodyparts, level 7 perspective, etc.

Sure it's not perfect but the anon in question asked for some basic guideline which this image kind of provides. You don't have to follow a guide 1:1 you know.
There are many ways to learn drawing after all, and you'll figure it out as you go.

it doesn't actually include gesture anon. this is the problem, if squint your eyes and bring your own experience, then it almost looks useful. but there is nothing that can be used to inform your practice
a raw /beg/ should study "basics" which is helpfully defined as literally fucking everything. nothing on which basics or how or what a good indicator that you should move on or anything.
it might as well say "loomis" 500x times.

ur progress is really steady but solid greysketch-kun. do u have any idea when u r going to study other material? i think it would be really interesting seeing you apply ur pinpoint focus on vehicles and mecha

>>4993600
folk-descriptions a lot of artists give on this stuff i think is so figurative some people have trouble with it.
i think michael hampton provides the best conceptual fundamentals to understand in a concrete manner
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSzB3ESpfE0

also what i think that anon was trying to say was to use visual language and exaggerate the pose more to sell force.

also the head torso thing is because one of the spine's functions is to support the head so how it is configure in relation to it can influence how the pose turns out. even if u don't want the details of the head to distract u, u can always use like bucket heads or something idk

insert "線画" on either twitter or pixiv search engines.

絵の描き方 ( method for drawing pictures ) or 絵の塗り方 (method for painting pictures)

replace "絵" with the bottom shit below if you want specific shit, e.g 髪の描き方

for hair 髪

for head use 頭

for extra detail for hands and fingers use 手 and 指

feet, 足

legs, 脚

nose 鼻

eyes 目

For extra specificty if you want males do [x] (x being either 男(male) or 女(female) ) の脚の描き方

e.g 男の体の描き方, 女の目の描き方

I'd reckon that'll give you top tier artist tutorials to follow.

I also reccomend this dudes channel if your japanese is good.

also this video he made is toptier and inspiring which also has english subs
