It's just practice. I think I only started getting ok at developing more interesting angles in the past few months. Prior to that all of my work had the same straight on angles that weren't very interesting or dynamic. So you're about where I was maybe 8 months or so ago? I'm using a reference to start. It doesn't have the greatest lighting but there's a bit to work with. In general it comes down to interpreting or translating the ref, not copying it.
I'm not really color picking or even looking that closely at the colors in my ref, beyond observing relative relationships. Everything's done by comparison. If I see a clear area of value - like the line of occlusion under the breast, or the navel, or the brownish color on the lower and side abdomen - I scribble in a dark value there *early*. If I see red, I saturate and hue shift (or desaturate if the local color is bluer). Once you have a strong "sketch" foundation, you can begin to refine the edges, deepen the value relationships. I kept it rough in this case.

One last thing. Try posterizing your reference. I do that a lot, it can really clarify value relationships, but don't depend on it too much while painting or things can get unrealistic. It's great for the rough-in phase though.

Sure. I don't know that mine are great representations of a thumbnail sketch though to be honest. These are a few from various commissions. I like doing them in a sketch book first then moving that to my computer when I want to actually work on it.

They look like shit but the point is to just feel things out a bunch of times and develop the one that's worth it, rather than starting a drawing from scratch and realizing you hate the concept after investing an hour or more into it.

I already have my own thread but I'd like to get more criticism on this piece in particular cause I spent longer on it than I usually do and it was my first attempt at shading. Is there anyone here with a better grasp at values/shading that could tell me how to make this look less pillow shaded?

i think there's too many soft edges and not enough hard ones. I don't think the spherical highlights look great either, try experimenting with other styles. also, yeah, it's pillow shaded. I'll drop some infographics that I got from the google

maybe go light on the nose and mouth details. Her left nostril is not as wide as it seems like it should be.

appeal, but in a serious note it mostly revolve around proportions and stylization of realism.
theres isn't a guide2drawlewd anywhere in the internet unless you count that japanese one with the fucked up hand placement. the best teacher is looking at actual lewd art by better artist and analyzing what they're doing that make an image such a boner magnet and looking at the real the thing (picture of girls in erotic poses) and see what you can do about it and try to really experiment and try every avenue you can think of.
obviously this takes artistic skill both in the fundies and your intuition to things that looks "right"

I like this 2nd one, but the face, boobs, and torso area could be better. Face just seems ill fitting, the torso and boobs seem flabby/without firm shape. Unless that's what you're going for. The right leg also looks weirdly undefined on the outer edge.
