I enter sketchbook competition month ago to be judged but I don't win , first three winners are: faces drawn in ukraine color, crayon drawing of a flat, more disfigured face sketch with old coal. There were no actual rules for winning, you just had to send a sketchbook and make it cool enough to win. There were 432 competitors
Is this win worthy in your opinion?

I'd need to see the other 429 sketchbooks to know

The ones that did win are super fucking gay though. Ukraine nigger especially is just blatant pandering.

Why would people participate in such a contest?

Do you get your sketchbook back?
"Please, spend 300000 hours filling a sketchbook so we may or may not look at it, then award some of our friends with laundered money."

I'm assuming these are 99% women and children, no one reasonable would fall for this scam.

there is a money reward of 10k for first place so i obviously in my innocence wanted to get it, especially that someone i regard as smarter than me told me i've got good chances of success

But do you get your book back?
Because 432 x 50 pages (let's assume it's a short book) = 21600 artworks, or 46 cents per completed page.

They're collectively wasting more than 400 people's sweat and blood for no compensation, so the selection process should at the very least make sense.

I did win 10k from an essay-writing contest in the past, but 1st and 2nd place above me got 30k and 20k. Mine was objectively the best, 2nd play was fair enough, but 1st place was an extremely biased choice.
But I got me money, that's what matters.

PS: These are my two favorites.
But top one might be autistic.

i do get my books back after they are presented in a gallery for a month, so i guess all is good that ends good.
I do think that winner should have some kind of great hook, not be politically correct so the first three are just plain and boring for me.

Is it worth to even enter competitions bros or should i just wage my time away untill i build up a community to which i can sell my stuff?

I would assume the competition is for people under 21 given the naive beginner look to the sketchbooks, but the photos of the winners look like elderly people.
Is this really the current state of art?

good assumption, the whole thing is for people currently in or graduating art related school or college. I guess only those fall for participating competitions because they think life is a 0 sum game

Entering competitions is usually a waste of time. Unless it's some giga-autistic competition where you're up against real autismos, some normie shit is always going to win. If it's any consolation I like your art but I think it's too aggressive for normies. They want "current thing" or cute

Middle guy was def the best of the three, as well as yours, in my opinion, but I'd say you def beat 3rd guy (our right, their left), and most likely 1st guy (our left, their right). You had some stuff that was meh, but some of your best def beat the outer two, and I would say compete with mid guy, who was clearly pandering, and honestly if I was a judge, I would recommend expunging those for leveraging politics in an art competition. Of course, I'd put out a basic set of rules exactly for this reason, too.
Anybody worth any salt already knows that the artist was basically exploiting those colors for points anyways, and even detracts from their character for doing that.

This reminds me of a Halloween costume contest our anime club had at high school, and the winner? NOT the only guy dressed as an anime character (a shinigami from bleach), but the friend of many judges dressed as a gypsy (kek). I was a judge, and made my outrage known.
This is why we NEED rules and standards for competitions like this, otherwise it's just nepotism/politics
