Anyone have any s̶p̶o̶o̶n̶f̶e̶e̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ tips for large scale/giant creatures? I've done some studies, use atmospheric effects, and low angle compositions; however, I just can't seem to get a believable effect. Everything seems to read as landscape and not alive. Any help is appreciated.

you're right, however that is true for the most part when you're dealing with a snow setting under a clear sky for example. The white of the snow can only absorb blue light. Caucausian or Fair skin will reflect the blue of the sky and appear blue in shadow.

It depends on what's around. If someone was wearing a bright green shirt, you'll probably see light reflecting green on the bottom planes of their face.

First of all, not always true, and second, it's based off of surface details with no understanding of the underlying bone structure, muscle, and fat.

On a side note, the, heart thing doesn't make sense, i mean it might work decently for a female butt at a certain angle but flipping a hear definitely doesn't look like a male butt.

Basically, it's a shitty dA tutorial by some 18 year old nobody that wasn't thought out very well.

Looking at OPs picture for example is extremely limiting and is at its roots symbol drawing. If you want to draw crystal balls than you can't spend less than 30 seconds looking at how someone else does it. you need to know how it works, how the light bounces off and is refracted through.
