Does anyone have any tips for drawing lips in general? Im pretty good at the rest of the face but lips just kill me, any and all help is appreciated, thanks.

I normally try to draw the upper lip using the side of my pencil, shading in the entire mass, before I define some lines for it me the bottom lip. Normally helps alot

Edge control is key. If you define the contours of the lips with hard edges, it will look off even if your forms and values are right. This is assuming you already know the anatomy and major plane changes of the lips..

make the shape of lips (jesus christ) yourself for different expressions

try different mouth poses yourself for your smile, your pondering look, your pout, your grimace

make note of how your mouth actually moves and then try recreating these different positions

from 3/4 left , right & centre

don't get to caught up with it, a quick dash can be just as expressive
