Honestly just too many mid-tonnes, i like the experimentation with colour but i really think you would benefit from trying to make it more photo realistic and less stylized, and after practicing that more you'll just have an easier time with details and realism. I don’t really like your paintings, or subject matter. However I think the one tip that makes it look amateurish is your lack of paint. It looks like you’re afraid to use a lot because it’s too expensive or something. Like in all your pieces I can see the canvas peeking through heavily. I’d recommend just doing several color glazes over the canvas before you even grid/draw a subject

I chose to start by largely focusing on graphite transfers, and now grids, for a bunch of reasons that kind of have nothing to do with needing a "crutch." In fact for a lot of them doing graphite transfers and grids was more of a hassle. But rules is rules.

Like before I started this series I had never tried a graphite transfer to canvas. You can learn a lot through tracing. Plus it's meditative and relaxing. And honestly grid technique is so satisfying to me now. It's a good way to keep your technical "left brain" focused and activated and junk.

sure, everything does. but some people realize that a certain project is a waste of time, as it's been done to death. or they find out halfway that it isn't worthwhile.
I've been doing projects and later found out that certain aspects have already been realized in artworks by contemporary artists. what i did was, i was glad and found that my ideas are on the right way, but i didn't continue to repeat what has been done before, but I've been putting all effort into discovering topics that are close to 100% my own, genuine idea. If you seriously believe there are no genuinely new ideas around in contemporary art, you must have avoided seeing big art shows all these years. but it is clear to me that you are a nostalgic artist, you claim to be following Van Goghs style. You are fine with repeating things in the most obvious way.

I paint memes and move money around like any rational grownup does. Invested in bitcoin early then forgot about it until 2016. I don't sell originals and I haven't gotten around to doing the website or prints or the youtube series because I finally got to a good work flow with the painting and I just keep doing that. I'm financed and budgeted for a decade assuming zero income from selling paintings or prints.

i never liked it how it was. was just base layer with gesso. And I've done a bunch where you do the blues and make it look awful but then when you texture skin tones on top it it sometimes works out.

idk layering is cool because there's always the chance that future you isn't an asshole and pulls a miracle out of their ass

What if hypothetically people start getting interested in your paintings before you die? If you start making a decent living at this in your life will you consider yourself a failed artist? Will you stop painting? What's wrong with having a comfortable normal life? It's not really up to you if there's a market for your artwork. What if you're just an average artist that pays taxes, starts a small business, and supports a family?

Plus your subject matter is often boring on a surface level and sometimes potentially creepy on a meta level. You either paint still lives or trees or sad looking prostitutes. From the perspective of someone that would want to promote you or your work it's a tough sell.
