I currently have a single 8gb ram with a ryzen 5 apu, and it lags.

This one is actually painted, might be completely soulless, boring and with heavy use of 3d reference (aka usual algenpfleger), but at least it is painted. OP is literally 3d + photobashing.

This is by Chase Stone, who literally only uses 3D and photobashing and cant paint at all. In other words, you dont render like that, you let the program and the photos do it for you (if youre after a boring result like that).

I think it has more to do with dull rendering than dull subject matter, if the same pic was executed by my fav artists then I'd be digging it. And the other way around, my favorite paintings done in this style would instantly turn dull. Execution plays a big role

photoshop doesnt really make good use of too many cores , its all about single thread performance , so intel is better , also navigate to your prefernces window open performance tab and make sure OpenCL is enabled , that option makes some things run on GPU instead of putting all the stress on CPU witch photoshop already abuses especally if youre not on a good intel processor , and when you have money get 8more gigs of ram and an SSD , make sure that if you get an ssd you reinstall your operating system and photoshop ( not just photoshop) to run of the ssd .

Depends on the GPU, but they're specialized in parallel processing so it should be faster a lot of the times.

The problem with making fantasy illustrations too photographic seems to be that it invariably ends up looking like a bunch of dudes cosplaying with some glowy photoshop shit added on top. Everyone's goal these days seems to be to make art that look like screencaps from a bluray release of a movie.

Some people do actually enjoy the process of compiling. Organizing ideas and playing with set pieces without putting in the effort of painting it yet saves time and finding the best imagery to suit the artwork you’re looking for is an enjoyable task. Hence why collages are so popular.
