How do I become one of those people who is so obsessed with drawing that they always carry a pencil and paper with them and are sketching between mouthfuls while eating dinner. I want to have passion for art, I want to be obsessed, but I'm really struggling.

How is drawing a lot cringey? Literally every working artist is constantly drawing or doodling, even when they're just talking on the phone.

i've pretty much been there for the last 2 months. first month was forced 10 hours a day, it was painful, but once you see how drastically you improve it becomes addictive. just get through the first month

That's what you want to do, too?
Well, do it. You'll have to force yourself some the first week but then it'll just become a habit.

you either are passionate about something or you aren't.
stop forcing yourself and go play games and flip burgers instead.

Draw everyday, but don't do your hours in one long block. Break up your sessions into 30-45 minute blocks and make sure to take the time to walk around/stretch and clear your mind before returning. Do your drawings in a cheap sketch/notebook so they feel less precious and you can focus on technique rather than creating a finished drawing. Carry a book everywhere, draw at your first urge, don't ignore flights of fancy. Ignore feelings and people like >>3965723, you should never feel ashamed to draw; in fact, you should get a great sense of duty from it, as if you're cursed with the drawing bug and must constantly improve for the rest of your life. You'll struggle a little as you power through the initial pain of making your brain do actual work, but as you become accustomed to it, it'll feel more like a natural extension of yourself and it'll feel as painful as walking, and you can better become obsessed with capturing what you see, think, and feel through drawing. Basically, start now. Grab whatever paper and pen you can find and draw the first thing that captures your attention. Just do that a few times a day for the rest of your life and you'll be on your way.

i agree with this.
sketching all the time is kind of gay. I have a drawing prof who makes us do a lot of quick drawings, which i hate because i spend a long time on drawings usually. However i asked him how he worked on his drawings, he said they take at least a month. That made me fuckin mad because he knew that the best results come from project work, not random faggoty sketches that are mediocre at best. But he still made us do that gay shit.

If drawing was your passion you would have done so from the get go. We’re all just husks who force ourselves to get up through the day and also do art for both productivity’s sake and not wanting to be around a dull internet.

Have a story or message you can only tell through art. Your obligations to that shit will push you to get through your blocks. Art for art's sake is harder to keep up.

As someone who loves art but struggles to find motivation, I can tell you that the #1 reason for lack of motivation is a poor love life.

Depressions kill your motivation to do anything. If you are a generally happy person, you won't have problems to find motivation. But if you are a mental wreckage, like me, the smallest tasks will become annoying to you.

>> No.3966284

Just force yourself in super boring situations where all you can do is draw. (Ex: road trips, bad movies, meetings, etc.) soon you start to use art as a way to pass time in any situation.

you lost me here. drawing is a solitary thing, why do you need a partner to motivate you to draw?

>> No.3966339

with a partner sucking up all of your free time, you'll be hella motivated to draw every minute you get to be alone

>> No.3966466

It needs some time so take it easy, when you're just a beginner it may be stressful drawing in public, best find places where no one can get behind you (that's Gourney's advice I think). I don't draw strangers because I can see they're uncomfortable with me staring. When I was a beginner the idea of plen air felt alien to me but since I got proficient it became a second nature and I always keep making mental notes on views worth painting. Passion and skill are like an egg and a hen, hard to say what comes first but if you have one other will follow up and snowball from there. To develop passion keep your joy of improvement, experiment and allow yourself to fail because you'll fail many times before you learn to walk. But when you finally get decent don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and fail some more.
>>3965893
You won't go from 0 to 100% at once, passion is something you may develop on the way

Here's some advice from >>/sci/

I hope it helps, even though it doesn't directly apply to drawing, it's still good.
