Nothing wrong with the challenge per se, but I think it was a bit too close to the RPG challenge and there being 3 instead of 2 is kind of daunting.
At least when it was doing all 12 by yourself, the standard seemed lower... now I feel pressured to make 3 good pieces instead of 12 cohesive sketches more or less.

I think the starting art thing might be because it must be so frustrating to be slow as shit at programming compared to how he used to be and making typos constantly, and art is a deliberate challenge which will improve his fine motor skills

Whatever his own problems and autism about art he started all this stuff back in 2016 with LAS. There's a bunch of the original lassies still around and DED, DAD etc all came from it, so I'm grateful.

Actually, no. This distinction is nor representative. The regular VC is pretty much for everything. Atlerier chat is thought as a space for people to draw together while focusing on working with minimal unrelated talk to the work. And NSFW was established due to complaints and it's there in case it's necessary.
Have in mind that Atelier-chat is still somewhat under construction and trial. If you'd like to engage more with it, make sure to talk with Courtier, Guespiere, Tang, or whichever user with the new "Atelier-student" role. I used to keep track of the years I've spent drawing but I have discovered that this is a pretty meaningless way of measuring progress.
Every artist spends the first few years fumbling about not knowing what the fundamentals are or really anything, can you really count this as progress?

The following however many years after that are inconsistant, you have some months/years where you study alot and others where you don't draw at all.
A more accurate measurement would be hours spent actually drawing, but no artist has bothered to keep track of that.
Forget about the past, just focus on the future, that's all you can do really

I don't know if you have any kind of hand troubles that might be affecting it but I see your lines are really thin and don't seem to have much opacity fade in them. A tablet is like drawing on glass, without the friction of a real pen and paper it will always be more slippery to draw on a tablet.

I recommend going back to the thicker brush you used in the past, it's much more relaxing to use in my experience. Of course it doesn't make for good looking lineart but that brings me onto my next idea...

Don't think about natural ability, it's impossible to tell whether you have it or whether it even exists.
I worry about a simillar thing in regards to intelligence, "am I lower than average intelligence? etc" It's a bad line of thinking that will only make you depressed, instead you should focus on what you CAN do, and that is more drawing, more studying, more learning

Despite that, I think you should take a break, you sound pretty burned out. Take time off art, maybe even time off the internet if you can and intentionally don't draw anything for like a week, and then for the next three weeks after that or something, only draw whenever you feel like it and if it feels bothersome just stop and do something else.

I've known artists to spend 10 years as a /beg/ and only in the past few years did they find their way and start making big gains.

For perspective, nothing really made sense until I watched the Marshall Vandruff course. Like I understood the basics of perspective in a passable manner, but every time I tried to go beyond the most basic things the material was either too boring or too convoluted in the explanation. The Vandruff course is simplified and delivered in an easy to understand way. It's obviously not the depth of How to Draw or the Olson (Olsen?) lectures, but it's a great intro course.
