Only if you know anatomy and volume. no, it's the manga art at the start vs manga near the end.

I like it more at the end desu. Lots of mangaka tend to change their designs to resemble the anime designs later on in the serialization.

Naruto did the same as well. There's a pretty abrupt shift in character art around the tsunade arc, Kishi peaked during the Sasuke Retrieval arc then plummeted in shippuden.

Masashi Kishimoto.

He peaked during the Sasuke Retrieval arc and his art went down the drain about 100 chapters into Shippuden but at his peak, he was one of the best draftsmen Jump has ever had and his art is what pushed me into wanting to get good at drawing.

His anatomy, figure drawing and perspective skills are so good.

I love anime, but what made me want to start drawing was an OEL manga named Night School. I remember reading vol 2 and never seeing the book again. Which sucks. I'm gonna see if anyone has it so I can read the book from beginning to end.

Also Nanto Hanamaru. I like the coloring book style to the art. Bright colors aren't my thing. I unfortunately can't find many high quality pictures of their work, which is sad. I'll keep searching.

eh, it was my first manga and the art is what inspired me to take art seriously so it's got a soft spot in my heart....

The first 245 chapters of the manga are solid and the characters are endearing enough and if you like shonen stuff, then you'll enjoy it.

The issue being, the following ~500 chapters are some of the worst storytelling and character writing in popular fiction. It's real bad unless you're a super weeb. Think Kingdom Hearts tier bad but less convoluted.

BUT

the art from chapters 150-350ish is for the most part, fantastic. chapters 200-245 is the peak of the manga's art though imo.

insightful, thanks anon. I was going to give it a shot anyway because the art is so good but at least I'll have an idea of how much there is that can be truly appreciated. it used to have this terrible rep probably because of where it changed, but it's good to know it starts nice

i chose the wrong major. i was miserable for a few years and i realized my dream job was a car designer when i found Miroslav Dimitrov. I didn't end up going back to school for it but I did teach myself to draw cars. and after a few years of cars i branched out to drawing everything else and 3d modeling.

Sergio Aragones.
I loved reading his comics as a kid and the side panels in mad magazine. It's incredible how many individual characters he can fit into one frame and the speed and simplicity at which he convey's emotions and actions all without any speech bubbles. A true master and one of a kind. I haven't found any other artist like Sergio Aragones. If anyone knows of similar artists please let me know.

Same but also Ryoji Minagawa, the artist of the Spriggan/Striker manga. There was just something about 80s-90s action manga, maybe the simplicity of the character's faces along with the attention to details.

I'd also throw in the early Howard and Nester comics from the late-80s Nintendo Power magazines and official vidya art of that era like LOZ and Bonk.

It's funny, I admire more guys like Cory Loftis, Ben MacSweeny, Tradd Moore but what pushed me to actually put some effort into art was reading Claymore. At one moment I just tried to copy a face of a character from the manga and failed, repeatedly. After 4 pages spent on trying to just copy a simple heavily stylised face I finally admitted that I suck donkey balls when it comes to drawing.
