For most colors like red and yellow i used black with “superposition” layer and lowering a little the opacity, i kinda liked the more saturated color it gave and thought i’d get away with the “dont shade with black” thing

and for darker base colors like gray-black and crimson red, well... i just plain used black with lower opacity i’ll be honest; since using the other layer filter would make a pitch black color.

Its still kinda hard for me to guess what colors should i use for shading and lights, since i relay too much on layer modes/filters to play with the colors

rendering is def not your thing yet. You need to master basic forms and then read scott robertson's how to render. I would reeeaaally suggest reading how to draw by scott robertson first. But if that book is too complex(which is it), try perspective made easy by ernest norling or maybe try one of the perspective courses spread around /ic/. marshall is a good start.

It’s a lot of painting, anon. Building up the lines after you paint over them. So you’d make a sketch, maybe do some weak line art, paint it in and then as you’re working you build up the dark values and have a push/pull between say the pink of her skin and the dark brown that defines the edges. That’s what it looks like to me. You build up on it as you go. It’s probably using an opaque water color brush Of some kind, a brush that makes use of the opacity and size being determined by the pressure you put on the stylus.

My question is, how do I find my fursona?

>I kinda just want to have fun drawing like everybody else but it sounds like you need to be effortlessly good before that ever happens.
This whole sentence is a couple huge assumptions, both of which are rarely, if ever, always true. For a lot of people, myself included, the fun is seeing your idea take shape, but the process itself for an unskilled artist such as myself is excruciating, especially if I ever go back and think about what I've done. I second-guess every line; I sometimes spend hours and hours on one body part; sometimes I get to the end, and I realize I fucked up, and have to do it all over again. Most drawings of mine take a week to complete to my own satisfaction. And they're still not good. But they're getting better, and I look at every mistake as an opportunity to learn, or to make something look even greater.

The trouble stems from comparing yourself to others. That's a recipe for disaster. You'll never be as good as some people, or if you are, you might never be as fast. That's fine, though; a picture is a picture still, even if it takes you a thousand hours compared to someone's ten. Skill isn't what separates artists from one another; the distinction is between those who are stupid enough to give up, and those who are too stupid to ever give in.

Seconding what >>5165539 said, drawing and all other sorts of creative endeavors have a degree of frustration that you will often need to go through before you get to reach your objetives. Twice as true when you are just beginning with said activity.
The trick to have fun with drawing is to learn to not take yourself too seriously, embrace making mistakes, expect them even, accept that you will make a lot of drawings that you will want to get rid of halfway in for how ugly or imperfect they will seem to you, and still let curiosity allow you to finish them to see what you end up with. Learning to draw is at best a bumpy and messy ride, but if you accept this and therefore don't let it discourage you, you will end up improving and your mind and soul will be happier for it.

Think of either traits you admire, or else traits you see in yourself, and then think of an animal you associate with those traits. They can be aesthetic or personality choices; it's up to you. If you've ever created a character for something else e.g. a tabletop RPG, you can always cannibalise the stuff you liked from that.

I find that it helps to have a fun objective, and not just, "I'm going to make the hottest/coolest picture ever." Illustrate stupid in-jokes for your friends or things from your life. Doodle people's characters to make 'em smile. Whatever gives you fulfillment. Balance those with the "serious" pieces if you'd like, so you still have a sense of forward momentum, and always look critically at your own work -- but don't forget that you made someone smile.

I really think this kind of sketch-y, messy lineart style loses appeal the more rendered the piece is. Like, when it was all black and white it stood fine on its own, but now with the colors there’s just this uncanny valley effect, where you’d expect a somewhat realistic looking face, but instead find a scribbled-on on nose, a color-less open mouth...

for starters, you should go back and take an extra minute to clean up the most obvious lineart mistakes with the eraser tool (f.eg. all the overlapping/overshooting lines on the face). It will really pay to do that!

Aside from the messiness, it’s overall pretty soulful! I like the colors, esp in the background :)

I really like the overall idea anon and your attention to the little details as well, your classic kemono face is apreciatted, the main problem you face right now is that it feels unfinished, I think some cellshading on the character would do marvels to.improve it, think OP's art. Other than that I'll keep working on foreshortening and dynamic perspective, i can see what you were aiming for but there's something that does not feel quite right about way things are getting closer and farther away on the drawing.

Yeah I have like zero 3d visualization, I understand perspective from watching videos but I have a hard time applying it to anything that isn't buildings, cubes, and other stuff. 3d on characters makes no sense to me right now.

>>5165558

I wouldn't even describe my problem as "frustration" and I don't take myself too seriously. My problem is I get hyper focused on trying to do something better every time I draw, I end up concentrating so hard on what im doing, or I concentrate really hard on a reference to make sure I get that reference as perfect as my skills possibly can be, and it ends up draining me so hard every time.

When I see other good artists draw on videos and streams, they don't have this problem, they seem relaxed and normal. Meanwhile im sweating to get an eye just right and make sure all the details that I see are there.

If I dont concentrate like this pretty much everything I do turns into a really loose crappy doodle that I end up giving up on or because I dont know what im doing I just start drawing random lines that dont mean anything.

It just gives me anxiety every time I approach my piece of paper with the intention of improving or not "doodling"

I'm the anon who gave the original critique, and yeah, this is what I meant with the lineart - looks better already, doesn't it? :3

As for the neon rim lighting (which is what I assume you meant by "lighting effects"), that is an advanced painting concept - at your skill level I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just add in whatever looks good to you, and focus on working out the basic techniques first, one by one (like f.eg. the lineart cleanup thing).

I like this anon's suggestion >>5166288 - for your next step, try doing clean, sharp color flats for your new pieces, until you're happy with the quality; then you can move on to other things. Don't try to learn too much at once, and remember to have fun!

for csp i would stick to a g-pen for lineart
coloring is real easy in csp, create a new layer and use bucket tool, they have a special option to use other layers as influence, letting you color things real quick (as long as you have clean lineart)

by sharp color flats they might mean keep colors within the lines, outside of sketches having colors that bleed over gives that "unfinished" look

>> No.5166374

>>5166344
Can't speak for the CSP thing as I don't use that software, but there must be a brush with a harder edge than this - and if there isn't, you can probably make one yourself quite easily. As for "sharp color flats", I meant just coloring your lineart like you would a coloring book - nice and neatly, without too much over-the-line spill (a little is ok but not, like, everywhere), and without worrying too much about shading at this point. That beach boi with the crab is a great example of this.

And yeah, you absolutely are ultra beg - but don't let that get to you! Acknowledge your limitations, and keep an open mind for learning! ^w^

I actually advice against the "bucket fill" thing - it sounds like a useful time-saver, but you need to learn to color in neatly on your own first with a hard round brush; if you can't do that you will have a HARD time moving on to advanced rendering later!

If you're going to advise using tools, advise using the proper ones. Use masks.

>use the Magic Wand to select the canvas outside of your linework
>expand the selection by a few pixels, cutting into the lines a bit
>invert the selection
>make new layer, color it any base color
>make new mask

You now have a layer you can clip to that you will never color outside of and/or a bitching silhouette of your linework.

Studying is a neccesity when learning anything in life, but you should never lose sight of your main objective. Everything should be slowly applied to your furry art as you study human anatomy and perspective, or else you risk burning out. I don't know what your skill level is, but I recommend sketching animal skulls and skeletons frequently to fully grasp the underlying structure of what you're creating. Always remember that effort and focused study are key, and even if you're without natural talent it doesn't matter as long as you apply yourself.

Just create a linework drawing of any kind. and underneath the linework layer. Create a new layer, and color inside your linework, and then once you're done, you can select clipping mask on top of the color layer and anything you paint will stay inside the clipping mask. Just make sure your color layer and clipping mask layer, is below the linework layer

4chan's anti-furry policies go back nearly 20 years to the site's creation, at a time when furries were more of a fandom whipping-boy than they are now. Quite honestly, they've loosened the reins in recent years; it's a small miracle that any furry thread, work-safe or otherwise, is allowed to exist at all on this site outside of /b/.

But to answer your question: /trash/ has a drawfag improvement thread that accepts NSFW, but the bump limit is much lower and the threads there 404 rather than archive. >>>/trash/drawing

Also yeah, I guess if anyone is ok with even scrolling past and potentially seeing some sick fuck raping an animal and still supporting that website with traffic, I probably don't want to hang out and talk with those kind of people. Impressive, despite it being simple, you know about form and laying in your shadows plus not to mention proportions. Cant help but wonder if you know your muscles too. All I know is the torso and thats it for now.

If I may ask, what did you do to learn cloth? did you take yt tutorials for those aswell?

they said Furry art would pay out and there you go.

That's not entirely true. I derailed a thread the other week by arguing that "non-binary" people had no place in a fantasy world and never got so much as a warning.

ahh not sure if you meant to respond to me or not, so sorry if this isnt directed at me
i dont really know any muscles, my knowledge on them probably goes as intricate as youd see on a cheap figure, since my focus was really moreso on readability
it was very much trial and errors for clothing, i started really weak with it until i just started studying clothes that i liked on pinterest. i try to put my linework where theirs folding as well as heavy shadows.
i think one thing i would have focused on more if i could go back is to try to reduce folds and shadows more, a lot of stylized art is being able to reduce the detail while still maintaining readability

Try shaping the muscles around the ribcage in a 3d like way, it looks too much like symbol drawing.
For the head, it looks like you're trying to fuse humans' tall heads with a long snout, and it looks weird. Try a flatter cranium, also that nose...

God damn, not bad anon not bad. Im drawing something right now based on your observations. Drawing ears was always cancer for me. Its amazing what you can get away with when you can draw simple forms. No anatomy and you can fucking get away with so much shit with clothing. Good shit.

kek, don't worry Its a compliment. I'm saying if you dominate simple form and perspective you can get away with figures even if its a mannequin. I don't know all the anatomy either, I just started with proko's arm lesson, all I know is everything before that and basic forms.

Also here's the doodle I made with your construction images for help.

You think that’s bad, you can’t even mention things like “rape” without getting your post deleted and banned on /vg/ now, or just go look at /co/ aka /co/umblr.
I think NSFW anthro/furry art should be allowed on here, but only “tasteful” stuff and not full on hardcore porn, as I understand that can get way out of hand fast. The mods of this board are thankfully actually good unlike the rest of the site and I am thankful and respectful to them for allowing the general to exist at all.

If anything no NSFW stuff can be seen as a challenge, many great works of art were created due to limitations placed on the creator, like Ed, Edd, n Eddy and Invader Zim creators were challenged and limited to create a children’s show even though they’re deranged.

You do know there's a report feature, right? The spam at the beginning of each thread, you can report them for drama/off-topic/etc and the mods actually do delete them in a responsive manner. On other boards reporting my be worthless but not here, they actually do their job and do it well.

Are there any other artist such as kyuu - @_Kyuukon - that make truly Japanese looking Kemono art although they aren't Japanese or Asian at all.
