Maybe, but I doubt it. Most if not all people who didn't already know about Babymetal will see Ladyaby and be like "Haha wtf that man is wearing a dress and he isn't transgender XD WTF Japan LOL upvoted" and will move on with their lives.

It's not like Psy was a gateway to Korean music or Ylvis was a gateway to Norwegian music, they were just a one-meme wonder.

It would be fine if it was like a parody/tribute band like what Cannabis Corpse is to Cannibal Corpse or Hatebeek/Hatebreed, but they're not.

Every other "kawaii death pop metal" idol groups I'm fine with and I actually enjoy them for the most part. Plus if Ladybaby copied anyone it was the Death Rabbits.

They're mathcore to the core. It's all in the time signatures.

But again the band, like Shai Hulud, is like "nooooo don't label us labels are bad" which is a fair statement, they have tons of influences and their sound varies from album to album.

I'm sure 10-20 years from now people will be arguing about death pop vs kawaii metal.

Hearts Once Nourished with Hope and Compassion came out in 97, not 2003. They were the pioneers of metalcore even if they came up with the term as a joke, the sound is the same. Mathcore is a combination of metal, hardcore & math rock

If you want to be that guy, metalcore started even sooner than that with bands like DEP and Shai Hulud.

It reached its peak popularity in the mid 2000s though.

A whole bunch of metalcore bands had their albums reach the US top 10 Billboard, not just top 10 rock/metal but top 10 of all genres and that was around 2006-2008. A couple of them were even nominated for Grammy Awards.
