Sup /jp/, I have a question for you all. Should I learn Japanese? I have all the Kana memorized, and I am willing to learn Kanji on the way. But I don't know if I should invest my time into learning another language I wont specifically use. Unless I guess for watching Raws and shit, or eventually moving to the glorious nation of nippon.

How hard is it to learn the Japanese writing system? I would like to learn it just for a time-killer, and it would be good to have when I get older, so if the economy is still as bad as it is now, I could possibly move to the country of the rising sun.

Apperantly, from Wiki, ""The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the US Department of State has compiled approximate learning expectations for a number of languages"[1]. Of the 63 languages analyzed, the 5 most difficult languages to reach proficiency in speaking and proficiency in reading (for native English speakers who already know other languages), requiring 88 weeks, are: "Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean", with Japanese being the most difficult."

So I don't know if I should actually take the thrill of learning the hardest writing system. Since im still young (16), I guess it will be easier than learning when im in my late 20's. But should I actually learn the language?

TLDR; How hard is it to learn the japanese writing system, and why should I learn it?
