Well, Kanken is basically a vocabulary test and likely most guys here who've read multiple VNs can do quite well at it except for the part that requires writing out kanji. The writing out kanji part is not just the single characters, but writing out the correct kanji for words and phrases. And not everything on the test is about writing, but reading as well.

That? Pretty sure I try to match the hooks. The trailing stroke though I don't care about since I'm using a pen. Is there a point in the video you find I get it completely wrong?

Whatever dude. Writing out shit by hand takes time so I don't normally do it. Only time I might write something out is RTK deck (learn and review) and the vocab deck (when I learn the word the first time).

Dude, everyone 4ch DJT shitposts about is bad at Japanese. No mystery there.

When I'm doing Tango reviews, it's audio on the front. I visualize which kanji go into the word is all. I don't write it out cause that would take too much time. So RTK tests that I can write the kanji as a character, and Tango tests that I know what kanji go into the word. I don't spend all that much time on them (normally like 10 or so cards pop up each day).

Idea I follow is get good at reading by reading a lot. The RTK and Tango then are the small amount of time needed to keep my "spelling" up to speed with my reading ability.

Fair point. Reading is great and reading with look-ups has actually gotten words in my head with next to zero need for anki. You do realize you don't have to add everything to Anki which is sort of why I like MorphMan as I'm clicking "known" a lot.

However, reading a lot will not help if you want to be able to write kanji. Not saying I'd like to be able to pass the Kanken 1, but a reasonably well-read person in Japanese should be able to pass the Kanken 2 or maybe even the 1.5, which RTK or equivalent will help.

The Japanese words dumbass. I read the keyword and mixed it up with the other kanji which also has rice in it's keyword.

RTK will just be the minimum amount of time to test my kanji production ability. It's sort of like spelling if you're learning English. Yeah, you can depend on the computer, but having the correct form somewhere in your head will be useful especially if you do live and work in Japan.

Why do you think I went and added the top 6 words for each kanji that appears in the top 40k words from a scan of 5000 novels in the DJT library? That clip is proof that you can miss the simplest shit if you depend on English keywords and that gets annoying when you're at 1000+ kanji.

The Kanji deck is pretty much the only time I'll write stuff from memory. I decided not to make that a point of failure in anything else. Anything else is just comprehension. Beyond that, I really should just read, read, and read some more.

QM could probably appreciate the fun of being able to write kanji correctly from memory.

Hi I'm NukeMarine, a moderator for r/LearningJapanese, and I can't speak Japanese for shit, but I earn hundreds of dollars per month for giving shitty, generic advice and streaming myself mousing over every single word on Yomichan.
I have also allowed Chinese men to come to my house to sleep with my wife.

Japan declared a national emergency for the prefecture I'm in, so maybe I'm getting a little stir crazy. Truth is though sometimes I name post and use proper punctuation and spelling. Usually when I post here I don't.

Anyway, time to stream. You guys have fun today.

Eh, just seemed today the topic was pausing to look up words. Weird though as I'm doing it as if I'm reading of the DJT library or VN which I'm sure many here read with a pop-up enabled. It just the pausing is due to the audio is being played as I read. I don't pause if I'm watching a show. Actually, I can't fucking stand doing that. Hell, I hate looking up words in books when I'm reading cause of the time it wastes. But a pop-up? Fuck yeah I'm using that.

Verbally? Yeah, you could probably do that half drunk after pulling an all-nighter. Physically? Umm, I'm a pretty big dude that lifts, but I'm a fucking pussy so you can probably do that as well. I'll watch my mouth.

Why the hell are you guys talking shit about pausing all of sudden?

I post here sometimes, though usually anonymously. Let's face it, nobody here needs my advice since the DJT Library has all you need. Came by today as I'm getting ready to do another Let's Read Japanese video.
