My favorite aspects of convenience stores has to be their little events or mini campaigns. For instance, buy a box with two packs of smokes and get a limited edition disposable lighter or buy enough stuff to get free stuff you win with raffles.

Them raffles are fun and winning booze is rewarding. Hell even shitass Zero Calorie Chuhai knockoffs are alright if its free.

If you live in urban areas that would be the case but where I lived it was 10 minutes by car, 1 hour if you walked. The funny thing was that 7-11, Lawson and Family mart were all 10 minutes apart but set in different locations.

The difference in culture is that gas stations in Japan isn't also a mini mart therefore convenience stores are the norm.
