tbh the path that they're on now is perfect.

They are, without a doubt, the most successful SakuGakus. I'm sure that Yui & Moa are probably wishing at times that Babymetal never existed and they were instead doing regular idol things, but if they were they'd be performing for literally dozens of people or more realistically just being regular students at home. They can use this as a launching platform for whatever other career they want to do.

Su especially is living her dream, she said that she wanted to be a famous singer/songwriter, and there she is accepting awards on stage and touring all over the world. She isn't a songwriter just yet but being a worldwide famous singer is close enough.

You might be forgetting or overlooking the fact that Babymetal is a band that sings about doki doki mornings and chocolate and playing hide & seek and tag while dancing around on stage. They're not trying to be totally brutal and grim and dark and all of the typical metal shit.

The respect and recognition that they recived from the West and its metal community isn't all that hard-earned either. It's not like they slaved away as opening acts in grimy metal clubs for years. They went viral overnight and their "gimmick" stuck, and they've been riding that wave ever since.

Being associated with "weeb shit" isn't worse than what they already are.

Yeah they have that one video that has 40+ million views alone, so they win that, but overall popularity isn't just about youtube numbers.

Also they're mostly supporting acts for some screamo pop-punk bands on this tour, only a few shows are them as headliners.

That's especially true. They've always been soft of metrosexual-rock in most of their career but it was still pretty heavy at times, but their last album went full pop-rock.

Now that I think about it, them playing with Babymetal would be as likely as hell freezing over but stranger things have happened.

I think they're slightly more popular, if not more or less equal, they've both played Saitama, Yokohama (upcoming for Babymetal), Makuhari Messe, etc. Then again One Ok Rock has been around for about a decade while Babymetal, as a proper band, has only really been around for a couple of years.

But in the west, Babymetal is definitely more popular. They have no problem selling out most of their completely solo shows and usually get decent positions at big festivals in the west. One Ok Rock on the other has been opening for like pop-punk and screamo bands from the early 2000s on their reunion tours.

Me? I don't really care about them tbh. I think they're silly and stupid and the most obvious trend hoppers ever, but they don't make me mad or anything.

True. The size and quality of some of the venues and festival stages that they played was pretty bad over the last year but yeah the other extreme of them being 20 feet above the crowd and 50 feet away isn't much better either. It's all about that middle path.

Nani? The main reason why they became so popular here (and everywhere) is BECAUSE of that mix of pop and metal. Their most popular song is about chocolate, need I remind you, another song about anime wouldn't be a radical change in style from what they've been doing.

KoA isn't exactly Slayer or Burzum, but they're easily comparable to metalcore-ish post-hardcore bands.

Saitama actually has a capacity of 37 000, but because of the set-up of the stage and everything else involved for the production of that show it ended up being 20 000.

Also Skydome is a stadium and not an arena.

My triggered autism of "arena vs stadium" aside, that would be pretty awesome.

tbh, it's almost embarrassing to have Babymetal come here & all over the world and play generic medium-sized clubs and the side stages of festivals. The full show with all of the pyrotechnics and various stages is hopefully something that they'll be able to do overseas one day.

tbh that's never gonna happen, but only because there is no arena or venue that holds that many people. Biggest thing in the world is the Pyongyang Stadium which holds "only" 150 000.

In terms of Arenas though, they did manager to sell out the second-biggest in the world, Saitama.
