No one, myself included in this, has claimed that the entire Old Testament was abandoned. The fact remains, however, that the New Testament is the central text of Christianity, for various reasons, some of which I've covered. You could argue that early Christians were Jews and indeed the first converts were that in terms of ethnicity, but by 100AD they had already branched off and considered themselves to be a different people. I suggest that you read up on the history of the Fiscus Judaicus and its application to the newly converted early Christian population of the Roman Empire.

Anyway, why are you taking everything so personally? It's just a discussion of religious terminology. If you have autism, I understand and apologise if I've upset you, but it really wasn't my intention. If you feel that you can't discuss this issue without resorting to insults, I'd prefer that you simply ignore me instead of mixing serious replies with such insults, as I do feel compelled to reply to the former and this might just upset you more.

The term "Judeo-Christian" implies that Judaism has something do with Christianity.

In fact, even more than that, it implies that it has a lot to do with Christianity, going as far as to give Judaism primacy by putting the "Judeo-" before "Christ". The people using this term should consider, for a minute, how they would feel about being called "Islamo-Christians" instead and maybe then they'll realise how offensive it is to those who don't share their warped views on the two thousand year old Christian faith that they've decided to rename.

He didn't deny that. Christians do believe, however, that Jesus brought a New Covenant that replaced much of what was in the Old Testament, hence the "Old" in its name.

The rules of the New Covenant and much of Jesus' teachings clearly differ in a lot of ways from those in the Old Testament.

Captcha very related, funnily enough.

Catholic and Orthodox Christians still exist. In fact, they are the majority, just not in the US.

I once saw a video of these guys standing on the face of some white guy who willingly lay there as they preached.

It's pretty amazing what white guilt can do to a man's self-esteem if he truly believes it.

Aren't those guys the exact opposite of "black nazis" in that they claim to be black Jews? Or something?

I'm actually not at all but, at the same time, I look down on people who needlessly throw around accusations of racism and "antisemitism" as much as I look down on actual vulgar racists.

Respect from either of those people isn't something I need or desire.

You might well be Scottish but the fact that you, as an individual, have used the term doesn't change the fact that it's something by and large used by the American media and that country's politicians. It certainly isn't in common usage here.

Also, I didn't deny that they have overlapping features. I provided examples of other religions that also have a lot in common but don't use such labels. Zoroastrianism and Judaism as well as Christianity and Islam being the examples I gave.

I just don't understand the purpose of this term.

Which part of my post was wrong? The first part? The second part was admittedly conjecture on my part and I flat out said it was just my opinion so it can't be that.

Calling someone an idiot without explaining yourself just makes you look like, well, an idiot.

So it's about as valid a term as "Zoroastro-Jew" or "Christo-Muslim"?

The fact that the religion has roots in an older religion doesn't make it the same. It certainly doesn't preach the same values. I feel like this term is only used, pretty much exclusively by Americans, for the purpose of encouraging the people of that nation to feel some sort of solidarity with Israel, instilling them a sense that they are the "same" people, despite this feeling not being mutual in any way.

What is a "Judeo"-Christian? Is it one of those crazy southern baptists who thinks that throwing aid at Israel will make Jesus come back sooner?

I know what a Christian is but I'm not quite sure what the addition of "Judeo-" is supposed to imply.

Yeah, pretty much this.

People nowadays seem to think that the militaristic expansionist period of Imperial Japan was the norm for them when, in fact, prior to that they were more reclusive than the DPRK is today.

Losing the war just brought an end to one unnatural state of affairs in Japan and replaced it with another.

I find it kind of interesting that no one thinks it's weird for the Japanese around her to be wearing Western clothing, but when it's the other way around, everyone notices.

What would Emperor Koumei think if he could see his country now?

I like the cut of your jib, anon-san.

What did you think of their more recent stuff? I haven't really got into any of the songs from Megalomania but did love their comeback single, Back to the 80s, which feels kind of relevant to your post.

Check it out if you haven't already~: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUbxFeqRZwI
