This is the one thing which is illogical. Animals haven't suddenly stopped existing. This is what I was even saying earlier with the whole "something happening in the future doesn't change the past" thing.
Would laws need to be changed if all animals could turn into monstergirls? Yeah, definitely. But "could" is the operative word. Animals haven't suddenly stopped existing to be replaced by mgs in the blink of an eye. So you're not going to see any laws relating to them suddenly cease to exist entirely.

I'm talking about the philosophical discussions centered around materialism and dualism, and the arguments you can apply to the idea of giving sapience to something which before didn't have it.
Philosophers have been arguing these sorts of things for years, and even centuries. As far as this aspect goes in deciding how the law acts on this sort of thing, it could go either way.
