Schizo time! The episodes of Higurashi and Umineko happen in reverse for everyone on Bernkastel's side. Everyone else travels through the fragments in the order that we see.
Rokkenjima was originally the silly happy mess that Battler "wrote" in episode 8 and the family was mostly at peace. Then Will, Clair, and Lion were invited to the party, which let Bernkastel arrive on the island. Featherine, Bernkastel, Will, and Furudo Erika destroyed the Golden Land and wrote a new truth on top of it that cast Will as one of the victims. Will's detective work was writing a cursed story about Kinzo being a ridiculous bastard, a new backstory for Beato, and all of the worst parts of the other characters' stories. Then Bernkastel "killed" Clair, Will, and Lion so that the curses of their stories would fall upon Rokkenjima. This determined the new reality that we see. The motive for Bernkastel's side in Umineko is revenge for erasing them and screwing them (Rika, Keiichi, Hanyuu, Keitarou, and Akasaka) over on a monumental scale in Higurashi. The purpose of Gou and everything after is to provide the whydunnit for Bernkastel and Lambdadelta's sides. That's why Battler blamed "nobody" when he was talking to Ange at the end of episode 8. Will introduces himself to Kinzo as "nobody" and both Higurashi/Umineko use "nobody" as well as other identification terms as if they were placeholder names. The missing slots in both sides of the Ushiromiya family would allow Bernkastel's meta side to easily fit in if they weren't erased from the human side of the island. Reversing the death of Furudo Erika at the wedding in episode 6 curses Battler and Beatrice with a nullified marriage that is never resolved for the rest of the episodes. Gradually characters including Ange are whittled away as the episodes progress until we reach episode 1 where Battler no longer recognizes Beatrice or participates in the meta. The bottle message plot point was a fabrication by Bernkastel's side. The fragments always had an order to them. This logic still works with Last Note erasing Asumu from the family to start the story off at the very end.
On the Higurashi end, Matsuribayashi is the original world. Satoko starts looping and Minagoroshi happens. Keiichi sets up a massive curse for when he's inevitably killed by Takano, and the order that she killed him and the club members affectes how the curse plays out up to Onikakushi. Keiichi follows cartoon logic in Onikakushi because he's the one adding on to the story, and it both begins and ends with Rena and Mion dying at his hands. Gou ends at the beginning of the story with Piece Keiichi clawing out his throat and being reborn as the nurse who kills any GHD survivors in the original Higurashi.
