I'd like to point out that the paladin with him was no friend, in actuality they are referred to as being new in the field based on what I wrote. There was also nothing alluding to 'good' or 'bad.' I find something significant in storytelling is that things simply are. Taking sides while telling a story when unneeded can really screw up your reader's perception of things.
