You keep talking like this but there is no real evidence for it. KC was once outright asked about making hands smaller and such and he said there is no plot or plan to such changes, he just draws whatever he considers to work best for a given art.

Plus with gnome we are talking about a humanoid embodiment of the earth, I'm pretty sure they can alter how their arms look with merely a thought. Though I personally don't see any particular difference in the transition. Her rocky arms look just as much like "gloves" in the original art as well, just without the projecting spikes around the transition point.

Note the change from rock to human skin is just as abrupt as in the newer art.

You're simplifying things. Most monsters are not easy to kill, even some that lack magic can move faster than the eye can follow, deflect bullets with their weapons, etc. And if you do wound them, they don't die as easily as a human would.

"Just kill them" didn't work much better in the previous age than it does now. Monsters were made to fundamentally be impossible for humans to beat on any large scale without divine help (and now the monsters have their own divine help).

Wouldn't work considering monsterized elementals can reinvigorate and restore the environment regardless of its current state, thanks to the power gained from their covenants. It would take time, but any "scorched land" could return to fertility.

The Watchers in the recent Noah might have just made the golem/earth types for me, previously seen dull. Now I can see them being loyal and upright beyond the mundane world.
