On the other hand, World Guide 3 does note that a slime's body is made mostly of mana. Perhaps its already so condensed that it simply persists quite a long time when parts are shed, hence why it can be used to make slime jelly (or the non-mana parts of it help stabilize it). But such stabilizing does seem to have a time limit unless it is maintained in some way.
