Perfectly balanced combination of That which you fear is hiding in the dark of night, and elegant, if playful, humanity.

Sucks to be you then, eh?

See, my favorite part of monster girls has always been how they aren't human. Some moreso than others, but they're always alien if not incomprehensible to some degree.
And despite that otherworldly nature that you may never totally wrap your head around, they love you just the same.

Of course.
Very, very good monsters.

I also like them because they're pretty much right on the line between civilized and wild.
A bit akin to the "fair folk" of more western myths.

Kitsune.

The meeting ground between monsters that are "beastly" and monsters that are civilized. A force you might never quite wrap your head around, yet they love you all the same.
Fluffy tail is a bonus.

Well who wants that?
Kitsune are in my favorite MGs because they are effectively the meeting ground between the "bestial" nature of canid MGs and high-class demeanor.
It makes them very captivating.

I like what >>15553023 said, If we consider how much ZUN loves old folklore-related stories we can perfectly assume that Yukari made Ran from the lifeless corpse of a Nine-tailed fox instead of stealing a kid and install a parasyte in it, also like ZUN said we can perfectly think that Ran is just Ran and that there's no such a thing as a trapped soul which's body is being manipulated.
