The sentence is pretty long, I'll enclose the part I'm talking about within 「」

出口を求めて　「走り回り疲れて」　動くなくなって　寂しさと恐ろしさからとうとう泣き出してしまった私の前に　彼は姿を現したのでした。

Shouldn't there be some particle at the end of 走り回り? Otherwise how are the kinda-noun and the verb connected grammatically? The style seems to be too formal to drop particles.

What is the purpose for that "の" ?
TKGG doesn't say anything about "explanatory tone のs" inside relative clauses. Or does a か inside a relative clause make it a sentence in itself?
