I actually got into it through Sengoku Gensokyo, since I just finished Rance and wanted something similar.

From there I started playing the main games. I usually just beat them on normal since I am not that great at vertical shumps. I haven't played 14 yet either, I need to do that as I am not familiar with those characters.

There are other good fan made games too with varying genres. I like both Labirynth of Touhou, I normally don't like this type of game either, and The Genius of Sappheiros. I hope Devil of Decline gets fully translated soon!
