Okay, let's see...

It's sometime past the turn of the millennium. You play as a Ukranian former Soviet fighter pilot, laid off and displaced to Russia after budget cuts back home. Once in the Russian air force you and a handful of your old mates (read: routes) are promptly shipped off to Africa - learning on the way that you have been "leased" to Ethiopia as part of a government arms deal.

You are now stuck in Ethiopia, war is brewing with Eritrea, and you are facing the prospect of fighting your former comrades turned mercenaries. Among them your former mentor (read: route, love interest) now stuck working for Eritrea to make ends meet.

... although dogfights in VN format would probably be a disappointment. BVR possibly even more so.
