The entire "Sariel is male" argument is completely baseless when it rests on the interpretation of Sariel as an Abrahamic angel (which it usually does), as they are sexless beings. Abrahamic angels are neither male nor female and can assume a form resembling either of those. The vast majority of angels in the bible and related texts are described as having male forms, but there are also those with a female appearance. In HRtP Sariel's sprite is unmistakably feminine in appearance, and while we cannot see under her dress, it's not reasonable in my opinion to assume that she'd be male as there is basically no evidence of that. The foundation of Sariel's character as an interpretation of an Abrahamic angel can support a female or a sexless being with a feminine appearance.
