Ranked doesn't matter one way or another since respawn keeps fucking it up. Back when Aqua did her climbs it was fine, you needed a couple of kills and placement to keep climbing. If you wanted to just kill early game you needed a lot of kills and if you wanted to avoid fights you needed to make it to top 3. You needed both to properly climb. But respawn wasn't happy with the way people are playing and wanted ranked play to closer reflect the esport scene and tried to force changes that were supposed to make people value rank over kills. They completely rewamped the point rating twice with major reballances every season so ranked doesn't mean anything anymore. You used to know what a low rank, platinum, diamond and master players look like. Now every rank comes with an asterix because there were busted point seasons where players would exploit the system and get ranks way above their skill level. And with that the bragging rights and sense of acomplishment is gone. Ranked used to be relatively consistent between seasons and getting diamond after being plat during your first couple of seasons was a sign of improvment and getting master was a sign you're really really good at the game.
