Guys I have definitive anecdotal evidence that passive listening doesn't work. I wanted to reveal these findings months ago but I didn't think the dust had settled enough.

I was playing a DBZ RP game on BYOND in high school and my parents were gone for 3 weeks on vacation. Since nobody was home, I played Mr.Roboto (Styx) on loop while I played the game for almost 10 hours every day for 3 weeks. Before listening, I didn't know any of the words other than the famous "DOMO ARIGATO MR ROBOT. DOMO (DOMO)." chorus.

The results? After listening passively for almost 10 hours every day for 3 weeks in summer vacation, I still did not know any of the words in the song except "THANK YOU VERY MUCH MR ROBOTO" which makes sense since that is simply an English translation of the song's title.

English is my native language, so I assume that passively listening to a language you don't understand would yield even smaller results.
