On the topic of the utility of sage, some *chans and plain-text boards have an invisible sage function when there's no need to shoot a thread to the front page.

Something like this would reduce hostile sages (hell, you could even auto-ban typing "sage" in the email field so people can't do mailto:sage + ticked sage box) while maintaining the utility of the function.
