Katana are only folded from eight to sixteen times, maximum. While in this time frame during the folding and heat treatment process it'll get about five thousand layers. Anything more than, say, twenty, and the iron sand steel becomes too brittle to use. While they are a work of art, with an equal amount of worksmanship put into it against a European broadsword or even a German Kriegmesser the katana would not cut through it, despite what your retarded anime about blacksmiths tell you. Katana have always been more about cutting with speed and precision through leather and cloth, and were barely usable as stabbing weapons. Whereas on another hand, a broad sword lacked the ease of cutting (Since it was more like you're hacking into somebody using brute strength and counter-balances in the hilt), you could stab through armor or into the vulnerable joints to kill a faggot.

Face it, outside of the craftsmanship and work of arts that katana are essentially in metallurgy and blacksmithing, they're a horribly overrated weapon that can't even end a bloke rightly.
