Basically, what's been alluded to in At The Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft is that the Elder Things created humanity as a sort of servitor race. Keep in mind that they already had Shoggothes, which were amorphous masses of constantly shifting organs and somesuch as the constructors and beasts of burden.

The Elder Things did not like Cthulhu and R'lyeh whatsoever, and there was a huge war. So the basic idea is that while Shoggothes find humanity's inability to shift their bio-mass they find it kind of endearing. In an "Elder sister and younger brother" sort of way. Keep in mind they all come from Ubbo-Sathla, which is constantly shitting out single-celled organisms like a giant, foetid Queen Slime.

In other words I'm a faggot and you should just learn not to ask. Don't worry, the pic will be deleted.
