Oh no, don't you try and one up me on angel lore. I've been studying angels my entire life. I tire of your ilk who declare that all angels are Ophanim and none were humanoid. The angels sent to Lot looked perfectly human, albeit particularly beautiful and entrancing humans.
While I am aware the common image of a human with wings descends from Zoroastrian and Greco-Roman imagery (the Yazata Sraosha and the Goddess Nike in particular), most abrahamic angels were not bizarre abominations. Only the Cherubim and Ophanim were so unusually terrifying to behold; as angels of the First Sphere, they are meant to operate in Heaven and not deal with humans to begin with.
Most angels don't have any defined appearance at all (you're not going to find what a Virtue or a Power looks like in the bible), but as time went on most of the "lesser" angels got the same winged-person treatment, at any rate.
But the greatest of all angels, Seraphim, look like wings and wings alone. They are not nightmares.. in fact, you really can't see them to begin with. You just see six flaming wings, bundled into a ball.
