If I have some hope for their character, I will give them a shot. For instance, I wasn't too fond of Misa's character in Hoshi Ori during the common route stuff, but I felt she may be really attractive in her route, and indeed she was. So I think it's good to gamble on some characters ending up better in their route than in the common stuff. However, if I have no interest nor hope whatsoever in a girl, then I won't waste my time. There's plenty of fish (moege) in the sea with heroines I am interested in.

Note: This is for more generic moege. For kamige of moege written by exceptional authors I'll consider every heroine worth doing by default.
