It would only feel stone-hard if she was that hard all the way through, the scales will have as much give as what's under them. Chubby dragons are still soft to the touch.

To be fair the monsters he draws in his more cartoonish artsyle tend to embellish them a bit for cute comedic purposes. He does have other wurm drawings that are more "realistic" like this one

The part about her not looking down on humans suggests she still comes off as friendly, I think in a motherly way that explains her nickname; she should look mature enough that it won't sound weird at all if she calls you "child" and still be really attractive.
