>Of course, she also picked a cute cat she could mother because she's lonely in that sense as well.
Both a blessing and a curse. There would be that angle as she's raising and training a far younger Youkai and going through the ups and downs of that, but at some point Chen's gone and flew the nest and doesn't live with Ran and Yukari. She spends her time leading cats at Mayohiga, doing whatever on the mountain, or playing with Orin. She definitely cares for Chen, enough to pick a fight with Protagonist of the day who hurt her and thank Orin for being friends with her, but is their relationship really comparable to that of a proper mother/daughter? I could just be reading into ZUNs AI angle too much, but taking Chen on as a Shikigami could be an attempt to substitute for the real thing like one would use a chatbot today. Chen is very much real and physical, but there's still the underlying shikigami possession that's very transactional in its nature: power to the possessed in exchange for the master's control. Maybe that's all Ran knew how to do and couldn't simply adopt the Bakeneko Chen, or it's because there's no other way it would work as animals don't think of parents as we do and Chen is too young of a Youkai to understand that concept.

Either way, Ran tries her best and I'll continue to enjoy fanon works that plays the family dynamic because it's very cute.

I imagine Gameboys would be pretty popular among a lot of the younger* or sedentary characters. The "girl's night" the hags are joked to have could attempt to do a LAN party because that's what young people do (they read it in a magazine).

True, the outdoors fits her, but that's not to say she can't. Playing outside isn't really an option when it's raining and you're a Shikigami who loses her powers from being doused in water. The rainy season could be pretty boring, so some vidya on hand is an appealing option.
I think Ran's enjoyment would be along the lines of what >>46187119 said, she's not 'playing' the game like the rest of us, but probing the limits and trying to break the rules and limitations of the game's logic for the thrill of conquering and mastering the software in its entirety. She knows rules better than anyone, it's her element. A computer is only smart enough to follow it's code and rules to the letter, Ran is smart enough to do that and manipulate flaws and exploit them for her own gain as her realm is technicality; it's the quintessential essence of a Shikigami using Shikigami.
The exception is that if said game included Chen (digital): she'd be just like the rest of us, chasing that high of having the pixels on screen say "I love you".
