KnK was a mild success and the popularity of contemporary fantasy wasn't abating so he continued the theme. Of course he read Shiki and decided to rip off the vampires off from it to the V, but nobody ever notices that. Also he added eroge because eroge sells even if the scenes are shit and you have to bend the plot for them.
>Fate/Stay Night
Nasu realized the vampire craze was dying down and replaced it with generic heroes instead. The fact that Battle Royale was a hit movie in Japan just before the development started has nothing to do with it. Then eroge eroge eroge.
