so starting October of last year, Mel became the victim of a serious harassment campaign

numerous throwaway accounts on Twitter and email messages
containing malicious messages and sexual harassment, directed specifically at her by name
at first she figured that came with the territory, it's the internet, and she simply blocked and muted the Twitter accounts and so forth
but the harassment wouldn't stop, the accounts kept increasing in number, to the point where she couldn't keep up with blocking them all
obviously, this was beginning to cause her stress
then came her planned 3D birthday stream on Oct 31
she got another piece of harassing email prior to this, except this had one thing that set it apart and made everything scarier
it gets worse. this email contained the sender's name
and it was someone she knew. someone she'd interacted with numerous times before.
Very understandably, this scared the shit out of her.
the letter does not give that many details, for obvious reasons
she immediately contacted the police and CEO Tanigou (er, the one everyone knows as YAGOO, but this is serious talk time)
and other Cover staff
at the time, it wasn't clear if the email was indeed sent from the person it appeared to be, based on the contents of the email
but that person knew Mel's personal information and her schedule
so in light of that, police advised her not to do the 3D stream, which would have involved physically going to Hololive's studio
at the time, they announced the reason as being Mel "feeling unwell"
here she apologizes to the fans who were looking forward to it, says she was looking forward to it as well, and thanks everyone who celebrated for her on her 2D stream instead.
so regarding the incident
around the time this initially happened, police were unable to take action
this part is a little tricky. She's using vague language so as not to name names or specify who she's talking about, and I will also refrain from giving guesses as to whom she might be referring to
but basically, the people she hoped would support her in a time like this, did not give her the support she needed
despite knowing what was going on, they uh... this expression is pretty hard, but their actions were insensitive, is what I'm getting
which caused further stress and exhaustion for her. since she wasn't getting the support she needed otherwise, a friend helped put her in contact with a laywer
with help from the lawyer, she found out that
yes, it was that person she knew who was sending those harassing emails
yes, that person was also responsible for the twitter harassment
or rather, it seems the person admitted to it
there's some legal terminology here that I am not familiar with and I don't dare to make guesses, even educated ones.
it seems that the situation is being... "handled" as in they're in the process of doing something about it
she says something here regarding the handling of her personal information and the people involved in helping her deal with the situation, the possibility of a leak of her personal information, etc.
however, I don't fully understand it, so I won't say more beyond that
but it sounds like things definitely weren't handled as well as they could have been

as a result of those events, she effectively took a break from her VTubing for quite a few months.

Due to the stress, the fear, etc
as of March 2020, the harassment from that person has stopped, and things are moving in the direction of resolution
she apologizes for her sudden disappearance and the worry it caused her fans
during, her leave of absence, she found a lot of encouragement in supportive messages on Twitter, saying we're always waiting for you, seeing fanart, seeing people who had newly discovered her, and she sincerely thanks those fans
she wasn't sure if she should even speak up about this, but she doesn't want any other Hololive members to go through what she did
she hopes that speaking up can help prevent this sort of thing in the future
as mentioned earlier, she wants to make it very clear
DO NOT question people not involved with this, especially other Hololive members and her illustrator Ayami, about this incident
She still loves all the Hololive members, all her viewers, all her Kapu-min (fan name)
And she hopes that, if possible, she can have fun streaming again.
