Kasen growled, a deep, harsh sound. Her fist clenched and her muscles rippled, but finally, she breathed out. "Yes - Yes, you're right." She muttered. "Reimu, I'll leave the rest to you." And with that, Ibaraki-douji stepped back. Now, there was only me, Yamame, Reimu, and Tenshi watching her. Oh, plenty of the guests were hanging around, and plenty of them looked like they wanted a crack at Seija too - Probably for their own reasons, because I didn't have to try very hard to see her making anyone she met angry.

"Seriously? What a strong oni." Seija muttered under her breath. I fought the urge to speak up and defend Kasen from Seija's comment. She was calling one of the strongest people I knew weak. Not just physically - Though she was possibly also the strongest person I knew - but...In every way I could think of. She'd struggled through a lot to reach the point she was at now, and I could feel the words forcing themselves from my throat, practically on the tip of my tongue.

"Shut up." Reimu and Komachi both said at the exact same moment. The shinigami had been standing back with Eiki Shiki, and I'd half-forgotten that she was there. It was Komachi who continued. "You don't get to speak about her like that. In fact, you don't get to speak about her at all. I won't abide it."

"Weak words from the hardest worker out there." Seija muttered,

"Reimu, I'm begging you. Let me wipe that smirk off her face." Komachi was growling now. Suddenly, I felt like something was sliding into place. Some sort of understanding. Her ability to get under anyone's skin was something else, but it wasn't that which I was focusing on. She would say it to anyone. Anywhere, at any time. She didn't care. It wasn't for any reason, and it meant nothing.

"Go and talk to Kasen, Komachi." Tenshi said this, placing a hand on the shinigami's shoulder. "Seriously. You’re not in the right state to be dealing with an amanojaku."

"Oh, the washed-up celestial speaks!" Seija called, her voice mocking and childish. "What, you're going to talk all high-and-mighty to me now? How interesting!"

Tenshi might have tried to attack her there and then for a comment like that. Instead, she simply watched her. "You're not worth the effort." She finally said, turning and walking toward me instead. "Reiki, Yamame, don't listen to anything she says." We both nodded. "And - Don't expect..." She paused for a moment, considering her words carefully. "I hope you aren't expecting a big and cathartic moment here. You'll never, ever get one from an amanojaku." I slowly nodded. No, I didn't think I'd get something like...I wasn't even sure. An apology? Really? Was that what I wanted from her? I didn't think it was. No, I didn't want to hear her try and apologize. I clasped Tenshi on the shoulder and nodded, then thanked her for everything. "Well, I do my best." She told me, smiling slightly.

"I don't want an apology." Yamame muttered. "I want to hurt her." I didn't think that I had it in my heart to stop her. I may have been fairly non-confrontational, but...Some things were worth it.

Reimu poked the seal with her gohei. "I doubt you even realise how much worse the situation you're in is than you think. Plenty of people here want to kill you. Properly kill you, and not because of how much of a nuisance you are."

"And? What, is that supposed to scare me?" Seija had gone back to leaning against the opposite wall of the seal. "Oh, I do apologize, Miss Hakurei Shrine maiden! I never meant to cause any trouble!" Her voice changed to something high pitched, and it made my skin crawl. I wanted her to stop. Stop talking. Stop being a reminder. Stop...It all. "What's a human marrying a youkai for, anyway? Your parents drop you on your head as a kid?" Seija was eyeing me now. No, I replied. No one dropped me on my head as a kid. Past a certain point, there hadn't been any parents to do that. "Ooh, I hate dead parent stories!" She cheerfully told me. "What got 'em? Illness? Accident? Youkai attack?"

Yamame grew very silent. Me? I stood up straight, and watched the amanojaku. Strangely, I felt very calm now. Youkai attack, I replied. "Reiki, don't-" Reimu began to say, but Seija cut her off.

"Youkai attack!" She called, slapping her hands together. "Classic! Hey, I hate it when a bunch of youkai gang up on humans too!" Did she...Know? I didn't think she did. She couldn't. She'd only seen me once, when I'd been a child. She couldn't possibly recognize me. "Ah, I haven't seen an awful youkai attack for ages. Not since you," She pointed a finger at Reimu, "Instituted these incredibly interesting spell card rules."

"You should be happy." Reimu told her. "You love complaining about the place of the weak, but you don't like the system that allows the weak to compete on an even field with the strong?"

She probably stole those panties from some poor schmuck, and wears them exactly because people wouldn't expect her to wear anything girly. You're just falling for one of her tricks!

I feel like the people that like that just like her appearance and don't care about her actual character. Or they fell into the secondary assumption of 'oh amanojaku = opposites = tsundere!' when none of her actual dialog has any of that backwards-talking horseshit.
