I part time at a sandwich shop in an area where a lot of japanese companies have american offices. I had a guy at the counter yesterday who was clearly from Japan, I even checked his name on the credit card in the 5% chance he was chinese. As he's paying, I say (I've had quite a bit of conversational practice so my way of speaking isn't perfect, but I understand pronunciation and intonation well):

>ああああ、はい！
＞日本語の学生です
At this point, he has the biggest fucking smile in the world on his face. But you know what he says in response to that?

>GOOD JOB!
