It's a way of keeping Rika still. Plus, they are the closest of friends, and no doubt Satoko was at least somewhat scared of dying. These are correct points you have made, but you've decided to take it as symbolism rather than as its literal form. There's nothing wrong with that, and god knows you're probably not wrong about them throwing in yuri undertones - what else can we expect from the animators of Citrus? - but deciding there is no other way of seeing it is somewhat shortsighted of you. There's every chance they'll 'chicken out', as you'll no doubt see it as, and not have any big yuri moments, and then you'll just end up disappointed and shitting up the threads even more so than posting yuri images and telling people off for not agreeing with your interpretations.
Simply put: don't be so blind dumbass, and realise not everything has to be evidence of girls wanting to schlick.
