i think the core kid thinks people who start reading shit are gonna have to jump straight into like soseki, mori ogai novels, or ancient chinese necromancy manuals but what i usually mean whenever i tell people to "read" after finishing core2k is like manga and easy moege so they can both get exposed to words they've previously seen on anki, and also see how things are expressed in japanese, rather than forming severe misconceptions about japanese and english having 1-to-1 equivalents.

of course, he only wants to read muramasa and dies irae instead of any regular stuff so he's most likely never gonna actually touch any japanese stuff at all since he's too addicted to the false sense of comfort provided to him by the sensation of perfect linear progress brought to him through grinding cards off a premade deck on anki rather than through natural exposure.
