It was a real wild west period back then when it came to translating, with some blatantly just making things up in addition to getting certain parts really wrong. Like the cyclops entry where the translator apparently confused the bearer of the weapon disappearing with a part of the weapon just disappearing.

Makes me hope someday some enterprising translator makes a project of seeing just how off the early translations were. The trouble may be in finding the Japanese versions of those early profiles to compare the English versions with though, as I think KC deleted them from the site ages ago.
