Vtubers' content is dogshit, and they're not nearly as big as overly vocal vtuberfags make them seen. The entire model revolves around artificially inflating youtube subcount (all vtubers whore for subs worse than the most jewish streamer), the fans treat it as a game where they actively try to get the vtuber as big as possible through viral marketing (the really hopeless ones think they're actually supporting someone's dream or some shit like that), then they artificially inflate further by doing collab streams to pool the viewers from each tuber into one video shill each other to their respective subs (which happens easily because subbing is free), every single streamer uploads the vod to their channel so in one recording each one gets an abnormally big viewcount upload and a boost in subs (even if it's just one simp subbing to 5 girls because the one he likes asked him to) to boost their visibility and get promotion offers.

As a result they have very volatile viewcounts compared to authentically-popular youtubers. If you were to compare Fubuki, the #1 vtuber, you'll find that her videos fluctuate wildly from <50k views to over 400k views, whereas Kripparrian who has almost the same subcount (both are just under a million) has a very stable viewcount, NONE of his videos fail to reach 80k in 24 hours, because he has reliably enjoyable content and therefore reliable watchers. Vtubers on the other hand are metagaming on self-promotion, cross-promotion, curiosity, and fad culture. Their popularity is shallow and inorganic, many people watch their videos but not many stick.

Their actual content is just a bunch of boring girls who play minecraft, at arbitrary points execute their 2 pre-planned skits/amateur songs to make the stream "memorable", and that's when they actually play video games. Otherwise they're just whoring their sub counts to make milestone videos or do promotions for new games) and collab videos. It's fucking boring. I want my 2 hours back.
