BJD's (made of resin) are pretty fragile. The dollfie dreams (made of vinyl) are really durable. My dolls have faceplanted from their 3-foot-high shelf and not so much as a scratch has ever appeared.

Clothes that stain and taking care of wigs is pretty much all the effort you have to put into it. I'm feel like I would crack or damamge a resin doll if I owned one.

I have both a PN Flection XS body (no head) and an older Obitsu XS body (with head). Chisa-chan.

The Azone PNXS body is 21cm exactly, to the top of the head joint. I don't have the head on this body, but I estimate 1cm extra to the top of the head, for a total of 22cm total.

The Obitsu XS body is exactly 21cm from head to bottom of feet, including head. It is slightly shorter, but much more flexible. I like this body more.

I think people are forgetting, that Volks is more of an industry of itself now, with parties, events and stuff like that of their own.
They don't really need to make their items cheaper or make more since the company now has a certain status it needs to keep.
Also, just think of how much time, stuff and money it takes for them to work the way they work now - they need to make new dolls, molds, make new stuff for parties, do stuff for their VIP events, make dolls for all their shops, etc. etc. So I hardly see any problem with Volks buisness model right now.

I'd really like to get myself a DD doll. I just don't particularly care for any character models and I don't see any standard ones I really like. There are certain parts I like so I've been thinking of creating my own.

do any of you make your own props for your dolls?

i want to start making some furniture, etc. for mine, to go with some ideas for photos. the kinds of furniture i have in mind wouldn't be available for purchase anywhere, it'd have to be custom-made.

i've considered doing it a couple of ways. i could take a traditional approach, building model props with hobby materials. but i'm not very skilled at that, and though i'm sure i could learn to craft mediocre props eventually, i could see myself never being satisfied with the results unless i were to spend, say, years studying the craft. which i don't want to do. i'm willing to spend weeks or even a 2-3 months on it, but not years.

another approach might be 3D printing. i know zero about that, but i'm not afraid of learning. the only part that makes me hesitate is the startup cost, which actually is only slightly less than a DD in the best case, but even so, that's a lot to drop for making just a dozen or two props. but the results would be (probably) exactly as i drew it up in the CAD program; no manual labor skills required, just drafting skills. well, except for painting the finished product, but i'm fine with that. i have less fear of painting than of constructing.

so i wondered if any of you have experience making your own props, and if you have any thoughts or tips you're willing to share. i could probably take this to /diy/ just as well, but, thought i'd start here.

Design templates in illustrator and print them out.
Trace them onto plasticard or cardstock.

Check out model train / wargaming forums, they have lots of people who make buildings and it's the same concept.

I've made some props, including a table and bed. Construction isn't that difficult, and you can get by with some shortcuts and still get great results.

Look at >>10414605. The bed isn't nearly as complicated as mine. It looks like a piece of foam covered in some pink fabric with a heart print. However the effect is wonderful. Even though the bed isn't perfectly realistic, the picture as a whole looks great.

heh, that's mine. yep, it's just a barbie bed with a little stuffing wrapped in fabric. though one of my ideas is to recreate a setting from a game, so i'll need to make the props to match their in-game look. i do have a chair that'll work, and now that you mention it, a bed, but other than that i don't have anything else that resembles what i'm looking for, so i'll have to build from scratch.
