Males are far more solitary creatures and we're capable of adapting very well to living in isolation. Women are far more social though, it's just how they're wired.

Males will eventually adapt and then thrive in situations where they're completely isolated, you can see this in monks and hermits and many different types of men throughout history, but I think most or possibly all women would be unable to adapt and they would become insane or depressed to the point of being suicidal.
