They seem to be quite alright with that. It's the same for quite literally every VN thread on /vg/. The people involved in the TLWiki/JAST/Nitro+ thing were the same people working on that project. It's generally not a good idea to illegally fan-translate a title from a company you're in talks with, so they obviously dropped it. The project was already stalled way before that, though, so the Nitro+ deal was just the final nail in the coffin.

And regardless of direct plans to localize anything, everything Nitro+ was removed from TLWiki at that time, including the already released Chaos;Head patch (which to this day has never been re-added).

I'm not sure if you can sleep with the goddess of fertility, but I haven't seen that when I played a bit of the game last year. One of the bigger problems, I think, is that companies who produce massive software programs that are _tools_ rather than _media_ will survive, such as Photoshop or FruityLoops. Creation of art without getting any profit from it. I hadn't expected /jp/ of all places to not see how this does not pose any problem; large-scale productions will clearly be impossible without profit, but how many free games are there out there? How much free art is being drawn? How many people are writing stories hoping only for people to actually read them? How many people are making music hoping to ever reach any people outside of their hometown? There's a bazillion artists out there of all kinds, constantly producing new art without receiving any money in return.

The only issue we could get here is a reduction of quality and of universality; we'll never get movies made with Hollywood budgets again, nor will we all be talking about the same couple of movies (despite the existence of countless more non-Hollywood movies). However, even high quality is possible for free, as evidenced by the music industry; only the most popular of the most popular artists genuinely make money off of their career. Most artists are screwed over so hard by their record labels that in practice they get less than minimum wage. Yet they continue making high-quality music despite that. Creation of such music is possible even without the financial incentive; only the distribution (record labels that get the actual money) is harmed.

Monetizing art even when people can copy your stuff. We are currently used to the most common business model, which consists of
1) Make something
2) Sell it
It's an ages-old business model dating back to physical goods (where it was usually the best of the very few possibilities), but is far from the only possibility. Did you know that there are companies making a living off of making free flash games? And this site, you can access it for free, even though it costs money to host it. (Moot may not make a profit off of it, but the hosting company definitely does.) You can view videos for free on YouTube, and well, most of the internet is simply free. It's simply because there are many other possible business models, such as:
-Using income from advertisements
-Offering subscription, premium services or micropurchases linked to central external components (for example, regardless of lack of copyright, you can be the only one to host a game server and "selling" these things due to being the only one who has the server program)
-Crowdfunding
-Sponsoring (generally commercial, though individual is possible; I pay you $50 to draw my favorite character)
-Selling service/convenience (being the first to sell the new products, regular updates only if you buy from creator, etc)
And so on. The possibilities are endless. People won't only buy because it's the only way to use the product, people will also give money for services or convenience.

How is that contradicting myself? 99% of the artists get screwed, 1% is so important to the label that they can force them to pay them decently. In the end, only a small fraction of the money goes to artists, even including the well-paid ones.

>>10676198
Not at all exclusive distribution - remember that you, as creator, have the advantage of being the only person able to properly expand on the product. If you're making a game, you're the only one with the code, they only have the executable. If you're making music, they can re-release music you've already released, but they can't release music until after you've released it for the first time. And so on. As for 'the rest' not being 'possible', all of the ones I listed are actually being used commercially. Not every option is available for every form of art, but they are all genuine business models.

>How is that contradicting myself?
You're saying that only the people with all the money profit off their career, and that only the people who make all the money can suffer. Famous recording artists have already been caught listening some guy in a club, stealing their music, and using their own popularity to sell it. Take away copyright, and that's perfectly a-okay. The rich will just get richer while the poor and unable to protect their creations suffer.

>If you're making a game, you're the only one with the code
Not without copyright law. Everyone has it.

>If you're making music, they can re-release music you've already released, but they can't release music until after you've released it for the first time.
Takes 5 seconds, costs them next to nothing so they can undercharge you and take all the sales, and I guarantee you they have better reach and distribution.

What is wrong with making a new thread? Do we have to keep any VN news we stumble upon or want to discuss to ourselves until the holy ritual starts again on Sunday? VNs these days are limited to only the VNTS thread and the VN general, and the VN general is terrible for 'English-only peasants'. I'm not going to go half a week without any VN translation news discussion just because such a thread is apparently not as acceptable to create as 'which 2hu fuk' by the current userbase. Seriously, fuck you. /jp/ is still the VN board to me, and I will discuss VNs here.

None of this works for an author or a songwriter. It would make it literally impossible for those people to make money. They can't talk to a publisher because it would be completely legal for the publisher to make and use copies however they want. They could self-publish, but that's expensive and still wouldn't stop someone from taking their material and releasing it themselves for cheaper.

Correct. For most of the world, the thread is made on Sunday; for me, it's Sunday 3 AM.

>>If you're making a game, you're the only one with the code
>Not without copyright law. Everyone has it.
...have you ever coded before? Like, ever? Even heard of how its done? It goes like this: We type a bazillion lines of text that are incomprehensible to non-programmers, push a button, and a .exe file (or whatever you're compiling to) rolls out. The .exe file does not contain the code, in the same way food does not contain its recipe; you can try to reverse engineer it to find out how it's made, but it takes a lot of effort and you'll never come close to how it was originally made. The programmer can easily make changes by just changing his code a little, while for people who don't have access to the coder's HDD (or repository) it takes complicated hacking operations to make even minor changes. VN hacking is a good example of lots of work to do a simple thing; if hackers had the actual code, it'd be done in no time.

>Takes 5 seconds, costs them next to nothing so they can undercharge you and take all the sales, and I guarantee you they have better reach and distribution.
Anything released at Comiket is also distributed on the internet with infinitely better reach and distribution. It still sells, if only through obscurity (meaning nobody goes through the effort to put it online quickly).

>The rich will just get richer while the poor and unable to protect their creations suffer.
It was an argument for why people will keep creating music. They will be poor, but they will still create.

And as soon as the big guys see it's popular, they'll reverse it in a day. But they don't even need to do that. No copyright laws, remember? They can just start selling it as is for half your price. Your exclusivity on being able to modify portions of it will not last long if it is at all profitable for them to it themselves. And even if you did, so what? They can just redistribute your updates a few minutes after you make them available again.
